Furniture In Far Off Places: Ohio!

30 Aug

Last weekend my boyfriend and I flew into Ohio for a weeks vacation of moped riding, smirnoff icing, Lake Michigan swimming and of course antique ogling. Yeah it’s not in Sacramento — or even California, but know there is good stuff far and wide. And I wanna ogle it.

My friend Abi who we stayed with in Cincinnati took us to an antique mall in Fairfield, Ohio (after ingesting some bummer-inducing Frisch’s Big Boy salad bar) where I was overwhelmed by the gargantuan collection. Of course mostly snoozy fine china, creepy dolls and a curiously popular trend in “vintage christmas” crap, it was a quest to get through. We had about an hour to run through the aisles before we needed to join Abi’s family for dinner.

I nearly fell to the floor. This bookcase/hutch alone just boogles my mind. It screams knick-knacks and obsessive book collector. The table is simple with those cute little mid century legs and measures at 48 inches in diameter This set is going for 250.

Craigslist:Credenza-Midtown

The name is mimomito. Midtown looking for mid century (wait…). I know that sometimes I venture off into the unknown with my digging of furniture but there is somewhat of a reason. And that reason is that somehow being from midtown automatically makes your stuff about a hundred times more valuable than other people’s crap. This method of evaluating appears to be working too because the stuff goes pretty fast-so anyone trying to sell things or owning a business should take note:move to midtown. But um this credenza I feel is a pretty good steal considering the looks of it (I mean by the picture), and how much wood is going on (actually it almost seems too good to be true-hmmmmm). The glass at top to keep all your crap safe, the pull drawers at the bottom. There is sooo much opportunity here.
Ah craigslists sometimes you torment me.

I am on the prowl for a kitchen table. A tiny one.
It’s been pretty challenging finding one that will work with the space I um…have left and one that I really like. So’s I been searching all over.
In this search I have come across things that make me wish I had some more PTO left to travel. Like this beauty for 40$.

Dear oh deeear look at that accordion goodness going on with this dresser. I dig the color of the wood in this piece too. So many other things could be done with this other than clothes (but if that’s your tea it’s good for that too). T.v could sit so pretty on the top of this guy. It’s selling for 199.00$.

I have also been looking for a tea cart. This answers all my craigslist hoopla searching but digs the knife ever so more deeply and then turns it. Why hasnt teleporting been invented yet? This tea cart is being sold for 100$.

Antique mall: Desk $176.00

22 Aug

Photobucket
Whenever I see a piece of furniture with all that kinda shape and fantasticness (that’s not a word…but it sounds nice) I start to hum queen jingles and get happier.
The odd shapes formed together in all kindsa wonderful ways is what I love about mid-century crap. It leaves you with so many wonderful display and storage opportunities. Word on the street is the antique mall is still having a crazy sale so check it out if you have a moment and want some nice stuffs.
This desk is going for 176.00.

Since I am in that type of mood…here’s another dude that defies all laws of sense and boring.
It’s a little bit more expensive (250$ in Orangevale) but the color here makes me drool and if you’re one of those home people who likes your furniture to match this might be best for you in the long run because it’s a common wood that’s used from that era and always comes up looking fantastic on some of the best pieces.

Around Town: The Antique Company 21st & X

16 Aug

I drive past The Antique Company on X & 21st street most every day and usually slow down to take a look at what is out on the curb being displayed. There are usually some older pieces from the late 1800s – early 1900s which is not so much my bag, but of course I look anyway. FURNITURE ON THE STREEEET!

This morning I went to breakfast around the corner at the ever-ironic Pancake Circus to show some out-of-town friends some “eating LOLs” and horrifying clown decor. While waiting for a table we walked over to The Antique Co. and they had four of these end tables out in front. They varied in price – I think due to some minor scratches and things. The least expensive was around $28.00, the most was $38.00. I’m not into the light veneer, but they could be rad in the right setting with your succulent and air plants sitting happily on top. The walnut table with the dove-tailing though is of course delicious.
