Craigslist: Steelcase Couch and Chair set, Oakland

6 Sep

OH HEY DUDES. Do you like sitting on ice blocks in the winter time? How about getting stuck to your furniture in the summer and having swamp-ass? Then check these stone cold foxes.

(Original Post) Three Steelcase pieces from 1974: a three-cushion sofa, matching side chair, and coordinating adjustable desk chair. The lines are crisp and tailored, the scale small enough to work in moderate-size rooms, but big enough to stretch out in. All three are upholstered in original tangerine vinyl in good condition, with matte-finish metal frames on the sofa and side chair. The office chair has a back frame powder-coated in sage green, and a swivel base in shiny chrome, on casters.

Sofa: $495
Side chair: $295
Office chair: $145

I’m surprised to hear that this is original vinyl, and that they are all in such crisp condition. If I had the cash I’d buy this suckers straight up, they match with a Steelcase office chair we recently picked up from Craigslist for$75.00. Here you see my boyfriend demonstrating it’s ability to “max” and “relax.”

I have a chair just like it! It was sitting around the City College, unwanted. I asked the right people and they told me I can keep it. Only problem is, it’s terribly squeaky.

What a sweet score! Sometimes old classrooms really do have the best old office furniture laying around. My boyfriend’s mother is a retired school teacher, and he is convinced there’s “a bunch of these chairs just sitting around in her school” – I can tell it eats away at him.
Have you tried to get in there with any lubricants to make that squeak quit? Ours squeaks a bit – but in kind of a hilarious well timed way.
The slow disapproving lean back… squeeeeeeak..

Well….I’ve been a little lazy with that I guess. I know I’ll get around to it sometime. I’ve also been a little obsessed about finding one of those vintage-looking metal stools that look like this:

Thinking for a while “where do I find one of those? WHERE DO I FIND ONE OF THOSE!?” Until I found this. Not bad, huh?

I remember these from shop class! Ha! With the cork top and everything! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a new one in my life though, they’ve all been 20 years old and had some kid carve his initials into it..

    Those stools are rad!

I’m in SF and have two side chairs (not the lounge chair, but actually called “side chair” on their tags) that match this set. I’d be interested to know where this set ended up. Perhaps they’d be interested in purchasing (or you?). bassbin gmail com
