DO NOT WANT: OH GOD THESE “LOUNGE CHAIRS!”

11 Sep

What!? These have been listed over and over and over again for well over 3 months? Are you kidding? Nobody wants to sit in a disco dentist chair in their own home? You don’t want to rent a flat-bed truck to drive to this weirdo’s house and pick up a sarcophagus/slug that you sit on? You say you don’t want to find out first hand what this thing smells like?

NO. No you don’t. Nobody does. Ever. INCOMING CAPSLOCK!

I have thought the same thing every time I’ve seen these chairs. I HATE THEM! … and he didn’t just post them in the Sacramento area, but in the Reno, Chico, etc .. areas, as well.

You should anonymously forward this blog post to them. Perhaps then they’ll get the picture.

hahaha yes – I wonder if the poor guy gets hate email or responses specifically saying “I DON’T WANT THIS. AT ALL!”

  3. Toni September 19, 2010 at 8:33 am #

I’m not sure, but if it is still being posted in a week I may have to take one for the team and be the one to tell him what’s up.

“This chair has ‘nothing on star trek,’ sir, please stop.”

I actually would like to send him that awesome photoshop job that you created. Maybe I can create more and send him a series of awkwardly placed “jetson styled chairs” in fabulous mid century homes.

An idea: lovely modern sofa paired with eames, george nelson and hideous chairs.

Frankly, the Jetsons would be pissed off by him associating those chairs with their style. Does that chair look anything like this:

Also, because I’m so excited that I’ve found people who share my love for both Craigslist and MCM furniture … I’d like to share my newest purchase with you.

    http://sacramento.craigslist.org/fuo/1961455043.html

I am picking it up tomorrow for $40. Such a deal!

  7. Serene September 19, 2010 at 9:13 am #

$40!?! Now that is one hell of a steal! And looks like you tracked that thing down on no keywords – “china hutch”? put that thing under “50’s style buffet” that thing would be going for 3x that!! If definitely not more!

We recently got a kitchen hutch with matching display case for $120 (https://mimomito.wordpress.com/2010/09/08/craigslisthutch-and-bookcase-citrus-heights/) aka $60 hutch – woot woot – but is in bad need of refinishing. Looks like yours has been spit-shined for the past century!

That’s a nice set you have there. Are you going to refinish it yourself?

I purchased a home a few months ago and I’m taking this semester off to find good deals on random stuff and to focus on antiques (I am renting a booth at 57th st Antique Mall, beginning in October). Sounds pretty ridiculous to my family and friends, but I’m really enjoying myself – especially meeting so many neat people through awesome furniture. — The whole point of that was to bring up my obsessive CList habit. When I’m not thrifting, at a yard/ estate sale/ antique store I am typing in every possible key word I can think of into Craigslist.

I hope that it sounds worse than it actaully is, because at this very moment I am realizing that I may be addicted to good deals.

Side note: I recently found a 1954 issue of Sunset at the Goodwill Outlet for 50 cents. Have you ever been there? It is nuts but the stuff you find is worth it (to me, at least).

I love sunset! I started collecting them last month. The pictures in there are eye candy for sure. I think I may have to go check out that goodwill outlet tomorrow. Mondays are my day off/thrifting adventure extravaganza.

ps. Good wishes go out to you and your searching/booth at the antique mall.

I’ve been watching a lot of youtube videos on refinishing and staining.. I also did an.. “okay” job taking apart, stripping and sanding an old electric guitar when I was 12 years old. So I feel like “why not try a massive piece of furniture!?”

  12. Toni September 20, 2010 at 3:21 am #

Joe – I will be at the Goodwill Outlet tomorrow also. Perhaps I’ll see you there. — Word of advice, if you see something that you like, BUY IT! I recently found out (from an employee) that they take everything that people don’t buy from the bins to the dump. It breaks my heart to think of all of those unloved, unwanted/ unclaimed 1950’s Sunset magazines going to the trash.

Serene – I am in the process of learning to restore furniture. If I get any great tips, I’ll let you know.
